Gentlemen,

Foreign Office, June 27, 1911. I HAVE laid before Secretary Sir E. Grey your letter of the 17th instant with reference to the restrictions being enforced upon the trade in opium by the local authorities in the province of Fukien.

Sir E. Grey had, before the receipt of your letter, been in telegraphic correspondence upon this matter with His Majesty's Minister at Peking, and the latter reported on the 9th instant that he was that day making written and verbal representations to the Wai-wu Pu. The Secretary of State is not yet aware of the result of Sir. J. Jordan's action.
